National Terrier is traditionally held on the first Saturday in April which this year was the first day of the month. It used to be the first championship show at which new puppies born from mid-June appeared for the first time, though regulations have now been relaxed this year so now dogs can also qualify from both Manchester and Boston for Crufts 2017 if they are placed in the main classes and are old enough. For instance Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILE SLIPKNOT, who was born on 27th June 2016 won Puppy Group 3 at Boston, was eligible to enter Crufts this year.

Judging Norfolk Terriers was Norfolk Terrier specialist Bryan Claydon who last judged the breed at Three Counties in 2015.

Last time he gave CH KINSRIDGE BACK CHAT the Reserve CC when he was just out of puppy classes, and now as a mature dog he was Best of Breed after winning the Dog CC, making this his 8th ticket. Owned and bred by Diane Jenkins he is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back out of Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho. In a repeat of the Cruft placings, Denise Horne’s MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS was once again the runner up with the RCC. He was from her first litter she has bred by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif.

Jackie Phillips though had even better success in the bitch classes as her CH BLAKENS TUTTI FRUITIE won her 4th CC. She was only two years old in February, so now coming to her best; she qualified at Richmond last year. Home bred, she is sired by Ch Blakens Xpress Yourself (a son of Vision Express at Blakens), out of Ch Blakens Sugar Candy Kisses. Vision Express is the older full sister of Lady Miss Cheif, the dam of Marchdens Mark My Words; both were by Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Kinsridge Mischief Maker.

Ruth Gee also had a good day as WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS was Bryan’s choice for the RCC. She has two CCs to her name won last year. She is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back’s son, Ch Blakens Pay Back out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops, a Ch Kinsridge Top Gun daughter.

Best Puppy kept the breeding theme going when Ruth’s WATERCROFT SUZIE’Q was Best Puppy. Similarly bred to her BRCC, this time Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops went a generation back to visit Ch Kinsridge Cash Back to good effect.

There was a new Yearling Stakes competition sponsored by Buddies and judged by Mr Ken Bartlett, where a Norfolk excelled herself by winning the Bitch Stakes class: Karen Hurrion’s VILLASSA COUNTRY BELLE, who was born at the end of March 2016; she is sired by Brickin Countrywide out of Ch Villassa Cherry Ripple.
