JUDGE: NORMA NEWTON

I don’t know whether it’s because the Queen lends us her ‘back garden’ or the playing of the National Anthem at the start of judging or the thought of the now traditional Strawberry Picnic but it’s always such a lovely atmosphere at this show. This year did not disappoint, and the weather was beautiful as well just to add to the occasion.

Thanks must go to Linda Philip for her now customary brilliant organisation of the picnic, but also to Katie Sant and Sarah Gilmore who did an equally wonderful job of presenting the feast and making sure everyone was topped up with Pimms, well done to you all ladies, and to everyone who contributed!

Turning to the judging, Norma Newton had 16 dogs and 12 bitches entered, with just two absentees on the day. She chose Ruth Gee’s “Ronnie” CH WATERCROFT CALLING TIME as her Dog CC and Best of Breed. I said it was his 6th CC in the report for Border Union but Ruth was right, I had miscounted – this is now his 6th (I had included Boston which of course was not a CC, just a mere Best Dog!). Andrea Smith’s JAVIDEL DESPICABLE MAY followed up his Best Dog and BOB at Blackpool last week with the Res CC on this occasion. Best Puppy was Ronnie’s son, WATERCROFT CALLING CARD. He is out of Watercroft Top Tottie, and looks like he may well follow in his dad’s pawprints!

Turning to the bitches, Norma chose Jackie Phillips’ CH BLAKENS LOOK NO FURTHER as her CC, her second Windsor CC in succession having got it last year under Jill Stevenson. CH WATERCROFT PINK FIZZ picked up the RCC on this occasion (and I should correct her tally as well, she has 9 CCs not 10, as I had done the same thing with her as with Ronnie and counted Boston).

Our representative in the Veteran Group at this Show was once again Patsy Green’s 10 year old dog CH WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND STAR.
