National Terrier is the first show of the new season with Challenge Certificates awarded, and traditionally it is held on the first possible Saturday in April, avoiding the Easter weekend, so on Saturday 7th this year.

Judging Norfolk Terriers was specialist Miss Gina Dorkins, who has been involved with the breed all her life. She gave the Dog CC and Best of Breed to CH BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE, with his 4th CC, and he was RCC at Crufts in March. Jill Stevenson bred him by

Ch Watercroft In A Pickle out of her Brickin Wild Ivy, a daughter of Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin out of Brickin Steal a Look, a Brick Smart Outlook daughter.

The Dog RCC went to last year’s leading dog, CH MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS owned by Denise Horne, but handled by Jackie Phillips. He is sired by Moortop Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif (my computer still wants to correct the spelling).

Following her recent crowning at Crufts, Jackie Phillips’ black & tan bitch CH MARCHDENS LOOK TO THE SKY FOR BLAKENS was again the winner of the Bitch CC. She was bred by Denise Horne, by Ch Blakens Pay Back out of Pie In The Sky (Tegwani Tarot Reader x Golden Fleece, a Ch Krisma Crossfire daughter.

In another repeat of the Crufts lineup, Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT PINK FIZZ won the RCC. Her breeding is sire Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars, her dam is Watercroft Name Your Tipple (Ch Kinsridge Cash Back – Watercroft Top Tipple, by Ch Kinsridge Top Gun)

Best Puppy today was Jill Stevenson’s BRICKIN JUST A PICKLE, sired by the Best of Breed today, Ch Brickin Pot of Pickle out of Brickin Simplicity (Ch Belleville Angello – Brickin Away We Go). Most of Jill’s bitches trace back to her foundation bitch Harrijen Hoi Ty Toi Ty through several generations.

National Terrier has several special classes, amongst them the Breeders Stakes. Ruth Gee has been targeting these classes and her team of WATERCROFTS, PINK FIZZ, CALLING TIME, TOP TOTTY AND CALLING TIME were successful here, and had similar wins in January at both Boston and Manchester, where there are no CCs for Norfolks, and her team were 2nd in the Breeders Stakes at Crufts too. In the Pup of the Year dog competition WATER-CROFT CALLING TIME was second, and WATERCRFT GOLD DUST was 2nd in the Yearling Stakes. In the bitch Puppy Stakes, Diane Jenkins’ KINSRIDGE CHITCHAT was 2nd and WATERCROFT TREACLE PUDDING was 3rd.
