The Norfolk Terrier that was thought to have been stolen is found.
It appears that she must have eaten a strong pain killing tablet that had been dropped and she had crawled under an armchair and stayed asleep for many hours. * Warnings
Norfolks are able to hide in such small places without being seen and this is quite a lesson to look absolutely everywhere when a dog is lost.
We have been told of another Norfolk who went mousing in a pantry and stayed very still behind some sacks of kibble when she was searched for. The door was inadvertently shut on her and she was only found many hours later - she could have died of bloat if she had eaten a lot of the food and there was no water in there either.
Many thanks to those who searched for Myrtle, the lost dog.
The Norfolk Terrier Trimming Day, organised by Rita Mitchell and Margaret Ruffles, and assisted by many other southerners, was a resounding success and enjoyed by everyone.
We will have more news of this later but, for now, here are some photographs showing - the day in full swing, Martin Phillips and Andrew Gullick demonstrating the stripping of a Norfolk and Rita thanking Martin for his hard work and giving him a card and presents.
DOLLY DOES IT AGAIN!
Specialist Judge, Mrs Cathy Thompson-Morgan repeated last years memorable win by picking black & tan CH VICHEA PICK AND MIX to be Best In Show at the 2008 Norfolk Terrier Club of GB Championship Show; she is owned and exhibited by Jackie Phillips and bred by Jane Devereux. Black & tans were well to the fore as Jackies brother, Martin Phillips, was delighted to win the Dog CC, RBIS & Best Puppy with a youngster at his first championship show TOM TOM AT JAEVA who put in a very mature performance to beat his red kennel mate, newly arrived from Finland, Nieminens FIN CH HEILURIHÄNNÄN FROM ME TO YOU (IMP) who then won the Reserve Dog CC. Bryan Claydon won the Reserve Bitch CC with BRYMARDEN COPPER KETTLE the winner from the Novice Class. Show Scene 2008

BELLEVILLE PREMONITON won his 3rd qualifying CC at Bournemouth under Judge Mr Frank Cane. He is owned and bred by Cathy Thompson-Morgan and just 18 months old, and makes our 5th champion of the year; his previous successes had been in Scotland and East of England; but he was pipped to Best of Breed by Jackie Phillips with CH VICHEA PICK AND MIX.
THE 4th NORFOLK TERRIER CHAMPION OF THE YEAR
The Jaeva team did the double at Three Counties, when judge Zena Thorn-Andrews, presented the dog CC to JAEVA HOLY MOSES he was bred by Martin Phillips but now in joint ownership of his mother, Mrs Beatrice Phillips, and Andrew Gullick who handled him to all his successes last year at Paignton and Wales. But they had to give way to the Bitch CC winner in CH JAEVA FALLEN ANGEL for Best of Breed; she is owned by Mrs Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate, but handled by her breeder, Martin Phillips.
TWO ENGLISH BITCH WIN THEIR TITLES
At The National Show, a first ever champion was made up by owner Jackie Phillips and breeder Jane Devereux when VICHEA PICK AND MIX won her third qualifying challenge certificate with Best of Breed, a great celebration for the three of them, following previous triumphs at the Jubilee NTC of GB Ch show and LKA last year.
A week later in Scotland JAEVA FALLEN ANGEL gained her crown, her CCs all won this year at Crufts and National Terrier, she is bred by Jackies brother Martin Phillips but owned by their mother, Mrs Beatrice Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate.
AMERICAN CHAMPION DOG WINS HIS ENGLISH TITLE
At WELKS, under specialist judge Mr Bryan Claydon, much travelled AM CH CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION lived up to his name by winning his third CC with Best of Breed and followed up by being placed 2nd in the Terrier Group. At the AGM of the Norfolk Terrier Club of G.B saw the retirement of the Chairman, Allenby Stevenson, the Acting Secretary, John Mackison, and from the committee, Gail Simpson, who has just been elected Secretary, Elisabeth Matell, who will still be newsletter editor, and the very long-serving committee member, Sally Willbie who has served on the committee for over 30 years as newsletter editor, official photographer, run the Norfolk Terrier Stand, been the rescue representative, the Discover Dogs representative and lastly joint Web Secretary, which task she will hopefully continue. They have all served the committee with great diligence and dedication and will be sorely missed.
The new Officers and committee are as follows:

Treasurer: Juliet Knight
Secretary: Gail Simpson
Committee Chairman: Patsy Green
André Hess, Cherry Howard, Helena Jupp, Cherry Stones were re-elected to the committee together with new members Gina Dorkins, Pam Harris, Judy Mackison and Jill Stevenson.Sally Brown is taking over the Stand from Dorothy Dorkins who has brought it up to new heights with her daughter, Gina.

Show Scene 2008: At the half way point in the year to the end of July, the Norfolk Terrier Club Points List.
The committee and the members of the club were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Pam Harris on May 6th; she had only just been elected to serve on the committee at the AGM, but had been helping behind the scenes for several years, and will be very much missed. She enjoyed showing her young dog, Melas Matchmaker at recent Club Shows and she also had a great interest in Springer Spaniels. Pam was a member of the Kennel Club for many years too, so her background knowledge would have been of great value to us all. We send our deep sympathy to her husband and family. A tribute from her friend Helena Jupp can be found in News from the Club

News from the Club: With the banning of docking of dogs' tails, (except in certain circumstances), the Standard for the breed will be changed. At present the suggestion is the addition of the word 'previously' and (a) and (b) reversed as below.
Tail
Docking of tail previously optional.
(a) Tail of moderate length to give a general balance to the dog, thick at the root and tapering towards the tip, as straight as possible, carried jauntily, but not excessively gay.
(b) Medium docked, set level with topline and carried erect.
