Show Scene 2010

LKA

The weather relented and was just above freezing point for the final show of the year on Sunday 12th December held at the NEC in Birmingham. Mrs Ruth Corkhill was the judge less than 15 months after doing the NTC of GB Ch Show. There was an entry of 19 dogs, 2 absent, and 31 bitches with 10 absent, mostly all new dogs for her to see; but of the four dogs entered at the 2009 Club Ch show all won their respective classes today with the two previous RCC winners going one better this time. Best of Breed and DCC went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s b/t CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE, gaining his 4th CC this year and 5th in total – he is by SA Ch Macsnest Nik The Kaluha at Collaton out of Belleville Lace Petticoat. He finishes in overall 3rd position in the Top Winners table. But winning her 2nd CC from the bitch classes was Karen Hurrion’s VALENTINES CHERRY CRUMBLE who is by Ch Belleville Premonition out of Tyark Treacle – she has also won 3 RCCs this year.

The dog RCC was yet another one for Diane Jenkins and KINSRIDGE TOP GUN, who also has 2 CCs and 2 BoBs this year, this was his 6th RCC of the year but he finishes in runner-up position for 2010 Top Dog. He is by Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar out of Oktumi Elude.

The bitch RCC and Best Puppy went to Martin Phillips’ latest star JAEVA COMFORT AND JOY, who had conquered all at the recent Club Christmas Show. Her breeding is below.

Holding on to their positions of 2010 Top Dog and Top Bitch this year are CH PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN and CH BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES, she is 4th overall in the Top Winners list.

BELLEVILLE LORD ANGEL is Top Puppy.

NORFOLK TERRIER CLUB OF GB

CHRISTMAS OPEN SHOW

Norwich Terrier specialist, Mr Bill Grey (Sygar) drew an excellent entry on paper of 26 dogs and 43 bitches for the Christmas club show on Saturday 27th November, but unprecedented snow and ice caused havoc on the roads, and many exhibitors were unable to come. 40 dogs in total were absent – with 12 dogs and 17 bitches actually shown.

The young star of the show was Martin Phillips’ nine months old red puppy JAEVA COMFORT AND JOY who was Best In Show, Best Bitch and Best Puppy; she is by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Jaeva Picture Perfect, a granddaughter of Ch/Swe/Dan Ch Jiffy The Sky’s The Limit and Ch Jaeva Dutch Courage. Reserve Best In Show and RBB was the winner of the Open Bitch class, RICHELL SHOW OFF, handled today by Jill Stevenson and Andre Hess but proudly owned by NTC President, Mrs Rita Mitchell. ‘Duffy’ is by Ch Off The Cuff by Richell out of Richell Drama Queen.

In the dog classes Jill Stevenson owned and showed her black & tan BRICKIN EXTRA SMART to Best Dog and Best Opposite Sex, (Brickin Smart Outlook – Brickin Dream Away) and Reserve Best Dog went to HARRY’S A HERO owned by Mrs D Rusby but handled by Linda Philip today. (Ch/SA Ch Jaeva Dutch Courage out of Blueberry Tart). (Kinsridge Jack Daniels –Cracknor Cutting A Dash).

MIDLAND COUNTIES NORFOLK TERRIER ASSOCIATION

The club gained CC status this year and held their first championship show on Sunday 7th November at Tomlinsons Boarding Kennels at Markfield, Leics. Congratulations to the Committee of the Midland Club for making it such a happy occasion, and it all ran on oiled wheels. They gave lovely mementos of the show to all exhibitors, celebration drinks and cake and produced a memorable catalogue.

Best In Show was a triumph for Terry & Linda Cooper who made up their first champion with SETTRENDA SAUCY SOX who won her 3rd CC from Judge Dorothy Dorkins. Having previously been very successful English Setter exhibitors, she was from their first litter of Norfolk Terriers they have bred by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Tegwani Scarlet Ribbons at Jaeva. Her previous CCs won this year were at Three Counties in June, judge Elisabeth Matell, and at Paignton in August under judge Marilyn Claydon, she has recently won 2 RCCs, including one from Andrew Brace at the NTC of GB Ch Show in September. She is the 8th Norfolk Terrier champion to be made up this year.

Elisabeth Matell exhibited the young junior dog CC winner from the Post Graduate class, he had recently arrived from Sweden from the Cantab kennel of Kenneth & Marita Eliasson; a very successful partnership between Cracknor and Cantab has developed over four generations and has produced CANTAB WINNING WAYS OF CRACKNOR. ‘Elvis’ is by Swe/Ger Ch Easy Born To Be A Winner out of Swe Ch Cracknor N Cantab Combined, who was born in the UK before she went off to live in Sweden.

RCC in dogs went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s

CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE, reappearing after a break. He is by SA Ch Macsnest Nik the Kaluha at Collaton (Imp) out of Belleville Lace Petticoat.

The RBCC and Reserve Best in Show went to CH BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES, continuing her successful run. She had previously been BIS at the NTC of GB in September. Owned and bred by Jackie Phillips, she is by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of Ch Vichea Pick And Mix, all black and tans.

Best Puppy was again a battle between the b&t litter brother and sister BELLEVILLE LORD ANGEL and BELLEVILLE CHARLIE’S ANGEL FOR KREATIN, now in the ownership of Christine Hitchen with Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s dog puppy coming out on top this time. They are by Ch Belleville Blacklace out of Belleville Another Angel.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

was held on Sunday 26th September at Brackley Leisure Centre in Northants - an excellent venue now that the overhead lighting is much brighter; this used to be the one drawback to the venue.

Royal Canin sponsored the show and provided prizes for all placed exhibitors that were much appreciated.

Our judge was all-rounder Mr Andrew Brace, who used his laptop to write his critiques on the first and second placed dogs after each class.

Best in Show and winning her 5th CC was the black & tan junior bitch CH BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES who added this prestigious show to her Best of Breed collection; she was bred and exhibited by Jackie Phillips out of the first champion she owned, Ch Vichea Pick and Mix by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva.

Reserve Best in Show and Bitch RCC went to Terry and Linda Cooper’s dual CC winner SETTRENDA SAUCY SOX from the first Norfolk litter they have bred; she is by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Tegwani Scarlet Ribbons at Jaeva.

The Dog CC went to ROXWAY DIRECT LINE owned and shown by John Mitchell, they were winning their second such award; their first was under Martin Phillips at WELKS in 2009. Bred in 2007 by Pat Broom, he is by Penorth Storyline at Roxway out of Roxway Quickstep.

Best puppy was a choice between litter brother and sister, BELLEVILLE LORD ANGEL and BELLEVILLE CHARLIE’S ANGEL, the latter getting the nod; shown by Christine Hitchen, she is in the joint ownership with Cathy Thompson-Morgan who bred them both and was exhibiting Belleville Lord Angel. They are by

Ch Belleville Blacklace out of Belleville Another Angel.

DARLINGTON

Held at Newby Hall near Ripon in North Yorkshire, terriers were judged on Sunday 19th September by

Mr Brian Baxter; he drew an entry of 39, with 13 dogs and 16 bitches actually present. His choice for Best of Breed was Mrs Jill Stevenson’s CH PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN winning his 6th CC and 4th BOB and in the lead in the points table at this date; he was bred by Eileen Batley by Brickin Magic Gesture out of Penmire Magnolia Blossom.

Following her success at Richmond, Jackie Phillips and CH BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES added a 4th CC to her tally; she is by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of Ch Vichea Pick And Mix.

The RCCs and Best Puppy were also a repeat from Richmond in Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s black & tan BELLEVILLE LORD ANGEL (by Ch Belleville Blacklace out of Belleville Another Angel) and Karen Hurrion’s CC winner, VALENTINES CHERRY CRUMBLE, now winning her 4th RCC who is by

Ch Belleville Premonition out of Tyark Treacle.

RICHMOND

Terrier day was on Saturday 11th September at Loseley Park near Guildford, it was a first time Norfolk Terrier judging appointment for Mr Jeff Horswell (Drakesleat) but we had to wait a long time while he judged many Welsh Pembroke Corgis in a distant ring.

It was drizzling on and off in the morning, so most exhibitors set up inside for the wet weather rings, but skies cleared by 1.30pm for the judging to take place outside. A disappointing entry of 10 in dogs with only 8 present in 4 classes, but there were 21 bitches entered with 3 absentees, however two new champions were made up on the day, making seven so far, three owned by Cathy Thompson-Morgan

Many congratulations to Jackie Phillips who won the vital third crowning CC and Best of Breed with her young b&t bitch at just over a year old BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES, and she was for the second time picked out in the last eight in the group judging later. She is by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of Ch Vichea Pick And Mix. She won her previous CCs as a puppy at the WKC in August from Liz Cartledge also with BOB and her first one was at East of England in July under Paul Eardley.

BELLEVILLE ANGELLO also gained his third qualifying CC for Cathy Thompson-Morgan, by coincidence he gained his tickets under the same judges as the bitch, but he was Best of Breed under Paul Eardley at East of England. A red dog, he is homebred by

Ch Belleville Premonition out of Belleville Another Angel, and she was also the dam of the RCC and Best Puppy winner, BELLEVILLE LORD ANGEL, a b/t son of Ch Belleville Blacklace.

CITY OF BIRMINGHAM

A Swedish judge, Mr Dan Ericsson, judged Norfolks for the first time in the cavernous echoing indoor hall at The NAC, Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry on Saturday 4th September. Cheerful bright carpets in the rings helped to deaden the noise. He drew an entry of 51 on paper with 16 dogs and 20 bitches present. Both the winners of the CCs were receiving their second such awards, with the dog, KINSRIDGE TOP GUN owned and shown by Diane Jenkins emerging as Best of Breed; he is by last year’s top winner Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar out of Oktumi Elude, a Jaeva Duty Free daughter. The bitch CC went to Elisabeth Matell’s CRACKNOR CUSTOM MADE by Am Ch Cause A Comotion out of Am Ch Cracknor Copydex.

RCC in dogs went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE ANGELLO, who also has two CCs (by Ch Belleville Premonition –Belleville Another Angel) and the RCC in bitches went to Dot Britten with KINSRIDGE MAID IN MANHATTAN FOR KRISMA, who was making her first appearance in the ring since winning Minor Puppy Bitch at National Terrier in April; she was bred by Diane Jenkins by Kinsridge Crossword Puzzle out of Kinsridge Stars N Stripes.

Best Puppy went to the dog, BRICKIN BETTER BE GOOD, owned and bred by Jill Stevenson By Brickin Smart Outlook out of Brickin Get Away.

A new exhibitor handling a Norwich puppy dog most efficiently made her debut here, young Hannah Morgan, Cathy and Ed’s six year old daughter.

THE SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB

Norfolks no longer have CCs at the SKC show at the Royal Highland Showground near Edinburgh on 28th August, and only five dogs turned up for Mrs L Roberts to judge. Her Best of Breed was the best bitch, Mary Atkinson’s MOORTOP MARY’S CHOICE, a red bitch by SA Ch Macsnest Nik The Kaluha at Collaton (imp) out of Ch Hobsons Choice at Moortop. 2nd to her in the Open Class and Best Dog was Mrs J & Mr M Riley’s LASTAREAN CHEK MATE AT MILLSTRAND Sh Ch, who was bred by Sally Brown by Kreatin Kuriosity out of Lastarean Hurdy Gurdy, a Brickin Cost Cutter daughter.

WELSH KENNEL CLUB

This is a representative show so nearly all breeds are exhibited. On Saturday 21st August, specialist and all-rounder, Mrs Liz Cartledge (Ryslip) judged Norfolks in the noisy, smelly cattle sheds that had to be used as the ground at Builth Wells once again was saturated, with more rain expected. Despite the gloomy setting, it was real joy for Jackie Phillips when her black & tan puppy, BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES won her second CC, this time with Best of Breed, and of course Best Puppy. She is by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of Ch Vichea Pick And Mix. Cathy Thompson-Morgan also won a second CC with BELLEVILLE ANGELLO (Ch Belleville Premonition – Belleville Another Angel). The RCC in dogs also went to a puppy, Jill Stevenson’s BRICKIN BETTER BE GOOD by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Watercroft Idle Talk, a Ch Brickin Held To Ransom daughter. The bitch RCC went to the Coopers’ SETTRENDA SAUCY SOX, who has two CCs, she is by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Tegwani Scarlet Ribbons at Jaeva.

BOURNEMOUTH

Bournemouth on Saturday 15th August was judged by all-rounder Mr Jeff Luscott. With a dire forecast and under threatening clouds, Norfolk exhibitors set up ‘camp’ in the wet weather tent. It was a long wait while he judged an entry of over 100 Australian Shepherd dogs in an outdoor ring, and he carried on outside until driven into the tent by torrential rain during the bitch classes.

Best of Breed and winning her first CC from the Post Graduate Bitch class was Martin Phillips with JAEVA GOLDILOCKS, a 15-month bitch by Ch/Fin Ch Heilurihännän From Me To You out of Jaeva Hotpants, a Ch Jaeva Hotshot daughter. The dog CC went to Jill Stevenson with CH PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN, who continued his winning ways. Linda Philip had a good day too as she won a first RCC with black & tan JAEVA WELL I’LL BE DARNED AT NORDALSET, the winner from the Junior Dog class, bred by her imported SA Ch Nik The Kaluha at Collaton out of Jiffy Future Classic who has been imported from Sweden but whose pedigree has mixed English, German and Finnish bloodlines. Linda’s red dog puppy, NORDALSET LOOK OUT FOR ME was Best Puppy, from rather sparse puppy classes; he is by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Nordalset Winter Woollies.

Mary Atkinson made her journey from Yorkshire worth-while when she won the Open bitch class and RCC with MOORTOP MARYS CHOICE, another by SA Ch Nik The Kaluha at Collaton out of her Ch Hobsons Choice at Moortop.

PAIGNTON

This show took place on Monday 2nd August now indoors in the large echoing hangers of Westpoint just outside Exeter – at least Norfolks had the privilege of being judged first in the Best In Show ring with its blue carpet.
Norfolk specialist Mrs Marilyn Claydon (Brymarden) was judging and her choice for Best of Breed was the dog CC winner, Jill Stevenson’s newly crowned CH PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN, his 4th CC, who was bred by Eileen Batley by Brickin Magic Gesture out of Penmire Magnolia Blossom. Winning her second CC was Terry & Linda Cooper’s SETTRENDA SAUCY SOX by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Tegwani Scarlet Ribbons at Jaeva.

Diane Jenkins won another RCC with KINSRIDGE TOP GUN (Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar – Oktumi Elude) and Jackie Phillips had a good day too when VISION EXPRESS AT BLAKENS won the RBCC – she is by Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Kinsridge Mischief Maker, Jackie also won Best Puppy with her black & tan BLAKENS DOLLY MIXTURE (Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of Ch Vichea Pick And Mix).

LEEDS was held on Saturday 24th July in the lovely setting at Harewood House but does not have CCs; however Marion Sargent had 20 Norfolks present to judge. Best Dog & BOB was Cathy Thompson-Morgan with CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE, and she also won Best Bitch with BELLEVILLE RED DAWN. RBD went to Patsy Green with WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND STAR and she won Best Puppy as well with his litter sister WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND DIVA. RBB went to Mary Atkinson’s MOORTOP MARY’S CHOICE.

Leading Norfolk Terriers at the midway point of the year, all having won at least one Best of Breed, are 1st Ch Belleville Blacklace, 2nd Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin, 3rd Kinsridge Top Gun, 4th Jaeva Hells Fury (bitch) 5th Belleville Angello and 6th Jaeva Midas Touch at Saltarello.
Leading puppies at halfway are
Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin, 2nd Kinsridge Top Gun, 3rd Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop, 4th Kreatin Kiss ’N Tell, 5th Blakens Toffee Kisses and 6th Jaeva Well I’ll Be Darned at Nordalset.

EAST OF ENGLAND

This show now has a weekend slot after years of being midweek, and the show at Peterborough was combined this year with a Dogs Live event so many more people came to watch agility, obedience classes and other demonstrations. Norfolk Terriers were judged for the first time at CC level by all-rounder Mr Paul Eardley on Saturday 10th July, and he drew a good entry of 21 dogs with 5 absent and 32 bitches and 12 absentees. It was a very warm day, but the in-and-out tents meant the ring was under cover so bearable.

A first CC and Best of Breed went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s homebred BELLEVILLE ANGELLO, a keen red dog by Ch Belleville Premonition out of Belleville Another Angel, she also won the Bitch RCC with his half sister BELLEVILLE RED DAWN who is out of Rouletta Red Delicious Leaf. As Mrs Lesley Crawley was judging the Terrier Group, Cathy had to withdraw both her Norfolk and her Best of Breed Norwich from the group as they share the same address.

The bitch CC also went to a first timer, Jackie Phillips’ BLAKENS TOFFEE KISSES, also winning Best Puppy as well with her black & tan youngster who she bred from b&t parents, Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva out of her redoubtable Ch Vichea Pick And Mix.

The dog RCC went to Diane Jenkins’ red dog KINSRIDGE TOP GUN (Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar out of Oktumi Elude.)

WINDSOR

Back to the Home Counties at the beautiful setting by the Thames with Windsor castle in the background on a rather humid day, cloudy but very hot when the sun came out. We were grateful for the large tented area with rings half covered, and where the special strawberry picnic organised by Elisabeth Matell could be set up in the shade after judging. Norfolks were second in the ring after Norwich, and were judged by specialist Miss Diane Jenkins (Kinsridge.)

She chose for her Best of Breed PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN, owned and shown by Jill Stevenson who was winning her 2nd Best of Breed on the day having just won with her Norwich Terrier. This is his third qualifying CC and makes him the first champion to be bred by Miss Eileen Batley by Brickin Magic Gesture out of Penmire Magnolia Blossom – his 4-generation pedigree can be seen in another folder. He was BOB at Crufts under Cathy Thompson-Morgan in March while still a puppy and gained his second CC at Border Union from Andrew Westwood in mid June.

Now all different names and owners: the Bitch CC was a first such award for CRACKNOR CUSTOM MADE owned by Elisabeth Matell and bred by her from her two American champions, Coco’s son Am Ch Cause A Comotion and much travelled Am Ch Cracknor Copydex who was actually bred in this country.

Delight also for Margaret Ruffles who was awarded both the RCCs; RUFFNOR KRISS KROSS by Ch Krisma Crossfire out of Ruffnor Secret Desire won the Dog RCC and his year younger half sister RUFFNOR OFF THE PEG by Ch Off The Cuff by Richell – Ruffnor Secret Desire won the Bitch RCC; her litter sister, Ruffnor Offbeat, also won a large Post Graduate class. To complete the ‘Off ’ sire’s (Harry) family success his other daughter Richell Play Off won Limit Bitch for Rita Mitchell.

Best Puppy was also a new youngster, Linda and Michael Philip’s dog NORDALSET LOOK OUT FOR ME, by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Nordalset Winter Woollies.

BLACKPOOL

Norfolk terriers at BLACKPOOL on 25th June, without CCs, were judged by Tan Nagrecha, and he chose
CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE for Best Dog and Best of Breed, he is owned & bred by Cathy Thompson-Morgan. Best Bitch went to Karen Hurrion’s VALENTINES CHERRY CRUMBLE. RBD & BP to Mary Atkinson’s WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND BRIGHT AT MOORTOP bred by Patsy Green, and RBB to Cathy’s BELLEVILLE RED DAWN.

BORDER UNION

From the west of England to the far north, exhibitors trailed up through beautiful countryside to Border Union held at Kelso on 21st June. Drawing a good entry for this distant show of 37 with 9 absentees, Mr Andrew Westwood was judging Norfolks for the first time at CC level. He chose for Best of Breed JAEVA HELLS FURY winner of the Bitch CC, a black & tan co-owned by Mrs Beatrice Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate; this was her second CC, and she was bred by Martin Phillips by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Jaeva Helfa Leather. The same owners and breeder were involved with the Dog RCC in JAEVA POCKET ROCKET, another b&t by Jaeva For Heavens Sake out of Jaeva Black Eyed Pea.

Also winning his second CC was Jill Stevenson’s young Junior dog PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN, who was bred by Miss Eileen Batley by Brickin Magic Gesture out of Penmire Magnolia Blossom. Jill too had a good day as she also won the Bitch Reserve CC with her homebred BRICKIN NEAT AND TIDY (Brickin Smart Outlook out of Brickin Get Away). It would have been a happy journey home as she gave a lift to Christine Hitchen who won the Best Puppy award for the first time ever with KREATIN KISS N TELL - she is by Ch Belleville Smart Alec out of Brymarden Carmen for Kreatin.

THREE COUNTIES

Less than a week after Southern Counties on Thursday 10th June, Norfolk specialist Elisabeth Matell judged Norfolk Terriers at Three Counties Show. It was a bitterly cold grey day with the Malvern Hills half hidden, cloaked in grey threatening clouds, with most exhibitors’ dogs and their paraphernalia tucked into the grooming area in the covered echoing permanent stand, just going outside briefly to show in the outside ring.

New faces were to the fore at this show with a first CC and Best of Breed for Diane Jenkins’ KINSRIDGE TOP GUN, who is just over a year old and one of the first offspring to be shown by last year’s top winner Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar out of Oktumi Elude, a Jaeva Duty Free daughter.

Many congratulations too to Terry and Linda Cooper, although seasoned very successful English Setter exhibitors, this was their first CC in Norfolks with SETTRENDA SAUCY SOX from the first litter they have bred and shown; she is by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Tegwani Scarlet Ribbons at Jaeva.

Cathy Thompson-Morgan won the RCC with CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE (SA Ch Macsnest Nik The Kaluha at Collaton ex Belleville Lace Petticoat) and Jill Stevenson won the bitch RCC with BRICKIN NEAT AND TIDY, who her husband, Allenby, had handled successfully in the Open Bitch class to great applause. (Brickin Smart Outlook out of Brickin Get Away), it was her first such award.

Best Puppy was Jackie Phillips’ black & tan BLAKENS DOLLY MIXTURE, a daughter of the redoubtable Ch Vichea Pick And Mix by Ch Tom Tom at Jaeva.

SOUTHERN COUNTIES

The show on Saturday 5th June just held on to the heat wave, and this year there was a completely new layout at the permanent show ground near Newbury where the new in-and-out marquees were much appreciated, allowing the dogs to be shown in the shade; the grooming area near the ring was a bit cramped for the benches were some distance away. Parking though was much easier for those with trolleys and new design of the show used the hard standing much better. The judge was Mr Les Aspin and he drew an entry of 49 with 14 absentees.

It was a Cathy Thompson-Morgan/Belleville day for the major honours, as Best of Breed CH BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE won his 4th CC, led the Belleville team of 4 to win the Breeders Stakes amongst the terrier group, and he himself won Group 2 under Mr Ole J. Staunskjaer from Denmark. His kennel mate CH BELLEVILLE INTUITION won her 4th Bitch CC.

RCC in dogs was John Mitchell’s ROXWAY DIRECT LINE (Penorth Storyline at Roxway – Roxway Quickstep), and the bitch RCC went to Jill Stevenson’s BRICKIN SKIP AWAY (SA Ch Macsnest Nik The Kaluha at Collaton – Ch Brickin Fly Away). Best Puppy went to the just under 8 month old bitch ROXWAY FANCY FREE (Roxway Free For All – Roxway Rum Truffle).

At BATH on Friday 28th May where there are no CCs, Jill Stevenson’s 8 month old puppy, BRICKIN EXTRA SMART was Best of Breed, Best Dog and Best Puppy under Judge Mr Alan Small and went on to win 3rd place in the Terrier Puppy Group from Dr M Boggia-Black. He is by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Brickin Dream Away. HATCHWOODS FLAMENCO (Richell Contraband JW ex Hatchwoods Flame) owned by Mrs C Howard was Best Opposite Sex.

SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB

There was only one exhibitor at the representative Scottish Kennel Club show with an address in Scotland, but for English Norfolk Terrier exhibitors it was a long hot trek to Edinburgh on Sunday 23rd May where Mrs Sue McCourt was judging the breed; she drew an entry of 30 with 5 absent. Best of breed and winning her first CC was the Martin Phillips’ bred JAEVA HELLS FURY, a black & tan by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Jaeva Helfa Leather, now in the co-ownership of Mrs Beatrice Phillips and Mrs Kate Tate.

Congratulations to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE BLACKLACE the dog CC winner, another black & tan, his third such award that qualifies him as a new champion (see pedigrees). He is by Linda & Michael Philip’s imported b&t dog they brought with them from South Africa, SA Ch Macsnest Nik The Kaluha at Collaton (Bodie) out of Belleville Lace Petticoat. His first CC was won last year at Darlington from Brenda Banbury and his second in April this year at National Terrier where he was also Best of Breed under Roger Thomas.

RCC in dogs went to Beverly Fraser’s JAEVA MIDAS TOUCH AT SALTARELLO (Jaeva Rags to Riches – Rushmi Hot Love) and in bitches to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s newly crowned CH BELLEVILLE INTUITION (Ch Belleville Thunder Struck – Belleville Rendition). Best Puppy was KINSRIDGE TOP GUN (see below) owned and shown by Diane Jenkins.

THE NATIONAL

was held on Friday 9th May with Norfolks judged by Mr Maurice Marshall, his entry of 43 rather marred by absentees. It was a good day for the Jaeva kennel, who won both CCs and made up two champions. Their imported Finnish Dog, FIN CH HEILURIHÄNNÄN FROM ME TO YOU won his third qualifying English CC in the ownership of Martin Phillips, Andrew Gullick and his breeder Mrs Kirsi Nieminen. He is by Ger Ch Allright Smart Rupert out of Fin/Est/Int Ch Rosara Love Me Do at Jaeva. (see pedigrees). He won his first CC last year at Southern Counties under Patsy Green, and his second at Border Union under Eileen Needham.

JAEVA BAG OF TRICKS also gained her 3rd CC after her successes at Crufts this year - judge Cathy Thompson-Morgan and East of England from Patsy Collings last year, after several RCCs. She is by Jaeva Gorden Bennet- Jaeva Rag Doll and is shown by her breeder, Martin Phillips but is still in co-ownership with the late Mrs Brenda Jones.

The Dog RCC went to the winner of the Puppy Dog Class, Diane Jenkins’ KINSRIDGE TOP GUN (Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar out of Oktumi Elude) and the Bitch RCC to Karen Hurrion’s CC winner VALENTINES CHERRY CRUMBLE (Ch Belleville Premonition out of Tyark Treacle). Best puppy though went to the minor puppy bitch winner first time out, Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE FRUIT N’NUT (Ch Belleville Premonition out of Belleville Passion Fruit).

W E L K S

The first outdoor show of the year, and after a glorious spell of dry weather, it was threatening to break with lowering clouds and a slight sprinkling of showers, but it was pleasant conditions for the dogs for the judging of Mr Albert Wight.

He chose new dogs for their first CCs, with the Dog CC and Best of Breed going to the recent NTC Spring Open Show winner, Beverley Fraser’s JAEVA MIDAS TOUCH AT SALTARELLO, by Jaeva Rags to Riches out of Rushmi Hot Love, bred by Martin Phillips; this caused great excitement as it was Beverley’s first ever CC.

Jane Devereux won the top spot in bitches with her junior bitch VICHEA DOT AND CARRY, who is homebred by Vichea Clever Clogs out of Vichea Hot Gossip.

The RCC and Best Puppy in dogs went to Mary Atkinson’s minor puppy, WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND BRIGHT AT MOORTOP, now 8 months old he was bought from his breeder Patsy Green from her promising litter by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Wharfvalley Rose Petal, his litter sister Wharfvalley Diamond Diva won best bitch puppy. RCC in bitches went to Martin Phillips’ and the late Mrs Brenda Jones’ dual CC winner, JAEVA BAG OF TRICKS (by Jaeva Gorden Bennet – Jaeva Rag Doll).

N T C of G B SPRING OPEN SHOW

Held after the morning’s AGM on Saturday 10th April, all rounder Mrs Jane Lilley was the judge and drew an excellent entry of 89 dogs and bitches. Her choice for Best Dog and Best in Show was Beverley Fraser’s JAEVA MIDAS TOUCH AT SALTARELLO (Jaeva Rags to Riches – Rushmi Hot Love) who won well as a puppy last year.

Martin Phillips also bred the Best Bitch, JAEVA BAG OF TRICKS (by Jaeva Gorden Bennet – Jaeva Rag Doll) and won the Open Dog class with her half brother and sire of the BIS, JAEVA RAGS TO RICHES, Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake – Jaeva Rag Doll who has proved her worth as a brood bitch.

Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve Best Puppy was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE RED DAWN (Ch Belleville Premonition – Belleville Red Delicious Leaf).

NATIONAL TERRIER

This show is the start of the new season and is traditionally held on the first Saturday of April; this year the show was held on Easter Saturday, 3rd April at Bingley Hall outside Stafford. Mr Roger Thomas (Squirreldene) judged the breed and gave Cathy Thompson-Morgan a very good day, winning both CCs and Best Puppy. Unable to compete at Crufts as she was judging she quickly made up for lost time. CRUFTS

Most championship show 1st, 2nd and 3rd class placings in 2009 are qualifications for entry at Crufts in 2010, which was held this year on Friday 15th March. Norfolks were first in the ring and judging started at the very early time of 8.30am, which meant an even earlier wake up call for exhibitors and interested spectators.

The Norfolk Terrier judge this year was specialist Mrs Cathy Thompson-Morgan of Belleville fame, and her choice for the Dog CC and Best of Breed and Best Puppy was winner of the Puppy Dog class, PENMIRE WILD BRAMBLE BY BRICKIN, who was Best Puppy at the NTC Christmas Show and qualified at the last show, LKA, in December; he was born on 7th May 2009. ‘Randy’ is owned and was shown by Jill Stevenson who has his sire at stud, Brickin Magic Gesture (Allright Aladin – Brickin Bossy Britches) but his dam, Penmire Magnolia Blossom comes from six generations of Penmire breeding by Miss Eileen Batley – what a thrill for her.

The bitch CC went to JAEVA BAG OF TRICKS, her 2nd such award, she was bred by Martin Phillips and is in co-ownership with the late Mrs Brenda Jones; a very dark red bitch, she is by Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Jaeva Ragdoll.

The dog RCC went to the Open Dog winner, Mr John Mitchell’s ROXWAY DIRECT LINE, bred by Pat Broom by Penorth Storyline at Roxway – Roxway Quickstep and the bitch RCC to the 2nd in Open, Jackie Phillips’ CH VICHEA PICK AND MIX by Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake out of Vichea Piquet Player, she was bred by Jane Devereux.

It is interesting that three out of four of the top winners were all bought in as puppies.
